Revision of
Registration numbers allotted to companies incorporated under the act.
As a result of computerisation of corporate data in the
Department of Company Affairs, it has become necessary that each company is
identified by a unique All-India registration number instead of the numbers
allotted by Registrars of Companies, at present. This is proposed to be achieved without modifying the present
system of allotting registration numbers by (a) converting the registration
numbers allotted by different Registrars of Companies, at present. This is proposed to be achieved without
modifying the present system of allotting registration numbers by (a)
converting the registration numbers allotted by different Registrars of
Companies into five-digit numbers by adding one or more zeros, as may be
required to the left of each number, and (b) by prefixing such number by
two-digit code number of each State/Union Territory wherein the registered
office of the company is situated. The
code numbers of States/Union Territories adopted for the purpose are shown in
the enclosed statement. Thus, if a
company has been allotted registration number 351 by a Registrar of Companies,
and the registered office of the company is situated in a State/Union Territory with code number 53,
its revised All-India registration number would be 53-00351. It has accordingly been decided by the
Department of Company Affairs that henceforth all the companies incorporated
under the Companies Act, 1956, will be identified by All-India registration
numbers as explained above.
2. All the Registrars of
Companies have been instructed that they shall allot registration numbers as
per the procedure outlined above and indicate only such registration numbers on
the certificate of incorporation issued by them with effect from 1st January,
1988.
3. All the companies are advised
to quote the revised registration numbers in all their correspondence and
returns/applications filed with the Registrar of Companies or with the
Department of Company Affairs.
